About the Position

We are seeking a highly qualified Geotechnical Engineer to join the team of SMEs working on a rail project. In this critical role, you will be responsible for overseeing geotechnical engineering and instrumentation, providing expertise in monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting geotechnical and survey data. You will work closely with the client and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the project by reviewing documents, assessing field conditions, managing claims, and supporting dispute resolution efforts. This role will also involve providing key input into risk assessments, cost estimations, and systems integration testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review bid documents, RFIs, ATCs, VECPs, and contractor submittals.
  • Assess field conditions and identify differing site conditions, construction defects, and non-conformances.
  • Contribute to cost estimation, scheduling, and risk assessment processes.
  • Provide advice on technical issues related to geotechnical engineering.
  • Assist in the monitoring, collection, and interpretation of geotechnical and survey data.
  • Oversee the installation and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation, including settlement reference points, optical prisms, inclinometers, groundwater monitoring wells, strain gages, piezometers, and extensometers.
  • Collaborate on systems integration testing and commissioning.
  • Support interface management and subsystem testing.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Licensing: Must hold a California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 20 years of experience in design-build and CM/CG rail contracts.
    • Extensive experience in design and construction support services.
    • Experience in tunnel construction, geotechnical mapping, and geological assessments during excavations.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Familiarity with geotechnical instrumentation, including settlement reference points, optical prisms, inclinometers, groundwater monitoring wells, strain gages, piezometers, and extensometers.
    • Strong understanding of geotechnical monitoring and analysis processes.
    • Ability to assess and mitigate risks, resolve conflicts, and provide technical guidance in large infrastructure projects.
  • Additional Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
