About the Position:
The Company is actively seeking a qualified Safety Manager to support ongoing heavy civil construction projects in Northern California, specifically in the Sacramento and East Bay areas. The initial assignment will focus on a Light Rail infrastructure project in San Jose, where the Company is providing underground storm and sewer utility work as a subcontractor.
This role is responsible for ensuring a proactive safety culture and maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal safety protocols. Reporting to the Corporate Safety Manager, the Safety Manager will provide leadership and support to field teams while fostering a safe and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement site-specific health and safety plans and submittals
- Enforce compliance with the Company’s Injury and Illness Prevention Plan
- Conduct regular jobsite inspections and audits to identify hazards and mitigate risks
- Facilitate safety training sessions, meetings, and toolbox talks
- Assist project teams with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments
- Monitor and support subcontractor safety performance and compliance
- Investigate incidents and support workers' compensation claim processes
- Maintain communication with project managers, field personnel, and regulatory agencies
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all teams
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience (minimum 9 years total)
- Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience in heavy civil, utility, or transportation projects
- Proficiency in Cal/OSHA and federal OSHA regulations, trench and shoring safety, confined space entry, fall protection, and other construction safety orders
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to interface with diverse stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Strong time management and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish bilingual proficiency
- Experience managing workers’ compensation claims and injury cases
- Familiarity with safety requirements in rail or transit projects
