About the Position:
We are seeking a highly skilled Tunnel Engineer to join our team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). This role requires expertise in tunnel design and construction support services, with a particular focus on the successful completion of rail projects. The Tunnel Engineer will be involved in reviewing bid documents, assessing field conditions, managing claims, and assisting with dispute resolution. This position will also play a crucial role in ensuring effective systems integration and commissioning of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review bid documents, RFIs, ATCs, VECPs, and contractor submittals.
- Assess field conditions and differing site conditions, identifying construction defects and non-conformances.
- Assist in dispute resolution between the PE contractor, and the Engineer of Record (EOR).
- Support cost estimating, scheduling, and risk assessments.
- Provide technical advice and act as an intermediary during disagreements.
- Collaborate with teams for interface management and subsystem testing.
- Assist in systems integration testing and commissioning.
- Provide guidance on geotechnical instrumentation installation and monitoring.
Requirements:
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Professional Licensing: California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience: Minimum of 20 years of experience in design-build and CM/CG rail contracts. Candidates should have both design and construction support services experience.
- Specific Skills:
- Expertise in tunnel construction and geological mapping during excavations.
- Experience with geotechnical instrumentation such as settlement reference points, optical prisms, inclinometers, groundwater monitoring wells, strain gages, piezometers, and extensometers.
- Proven ability to assess and mitigate risks, resolve conflicts, and support large-scale infrastructure projects.
