About the Position
We are seeking a highly qualified HSES Manager to oversee the health, safety, environmental, and security aspects of large-scale construction projects. This position will report directly to the Construction Safety Manager and will collaborate with various departments, including Security and Law Enforcement and Metro Fire and Life Safety. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in construction safety and security management, particularly in transit projects, and will ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Construction Safety Manager, Security and Law Enforcement, and Metro Fire and Life Safety to ensure the effective management of health, safety, environmental, and security aspects on the construction site.
- Ensure safety policies and procedures are consistently applied across all phases of construction and within compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with project teams and contractors to implement safety and security strategies that mitigate risks and ensure the well-being of workers and stakeholders.
- Oversee incident investigations and root cause analysis to prevent future safety hazards.
- Provide safety leadership and training to workers and contractors to promote a strong safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with safety and security guidelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Approximately 10 years of experience in construction safety and security management, with experience on large-scale transit projects (light rail experience is a plus).
- Experience managing safety and security on transit projects valued at $100 million or more (light rail experience is desirable).
- Prior experience working with the LACMTA Construction Safety Department, Security and Law Enforcement Department, and the Metro Fire and Life Safety Department is highly desirable.
- Professional designation as a Construction Safety and Health Technician (CHST) is desirable.
- First Aid and CPR Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent).
- Previous experience as a contractor's safety and security manager is a significant advantage.
