About the Position:

The Regional Health & Safety Director is a leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety strategies across regional operations. This role focuses on cultivating a culture of safety excellence and providing guidance and coaching to all safety teams within the region. The Regional Director will work collaboratively with operational leadership and peers to ensure alignment with Safety Management System, lead risk reduction efforts, and continuously improve safety practices across the region.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in safety leadership within construction, mining, heavy civil, or manufacturing industries. The Regional Director will act as the subject matter expert on health and safety matters, supporting teams in reducing risk while ensuring operational effectiveness. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee regional safety strategies and ensure alignment with the overall Safety Management System across all business units.
  • Lead and mentor safety professionals within the region, supporting skills development, team effectiveness, and project completion.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on H&S regulatory issues, providing guidance and support to regional teams and stakeholders.
  • Lead incident investigations, ensuring thorough and timely completion with corrective actions.
  • Conduct site audits, inspections, and safety team member interactions regularly to maintain high safety standards.
  • Collaborate with local, state, and federal inspectors during inspection activities and manage any issued warnings or citations.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee regional safety programs, including policies, procedures, risk assessments, and audits.
  • Support and oversee matters related to workers' compensation, auto liability, and general liability claims.
  • Monitor and analyze safety data to identify trends and refine safety initiatives.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with applicable safety standards and keep abreast of agency rule-making that may impact operations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, Construction, or a related field. Equivalent experience in mining, construction, heavy civil, or manufacturing industries will also be considered.
  • Extensive background and understanding of applicable regulatory environments, including MSHA, OSHA, DOT, BATFE, and FRA.
  • Proven experience in progressively responsible roles, with both tactical and strategic focus on safety leadership.
  • Strong understanding of behavior-based safety principles and safety management systems.
  • Confident, articulate, and influential leader who can coach and inspire change through positive leadership and respectful challenges to historic practices.
  • Excellent technical skills to design safety systems, analyze data, and oversee program effectiveness.
