About the Position:
Our client is seeking a dynamic, servant-minded Director of Safety / VP of Safety to lead and elevate their Environmental Health & Safety culture across all construction operations. This leader will champion a true “Safety First” mindset at every level, overseeing safety for large-scale projects with up to 500+ employees in the field. The right person will mentor a team of six direct reports, engage proactively with field teams, and ensure that best-in-class safety practices are implemented and continuously improved. This role will be based at the Spartanburg, SC HQ with 25–40% travel to project sites.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategic safety initiatives in partnership with senior leadership
- Provide direct oversight, coaching, and professional development to the safety team
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations
- Partner with field leadership to identify hazards, develop controls, and promote behavior-based safety practices
- Conduct regular site visits to train, audit, and reinforce the safety culture on active projects
- Lead investigations of incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Represent the company in client and regulatory safety meetings
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to maintain their position as an industry leader in safety performance
Requirements:
- 10+ years of progressive EHS experience in construction
- Demonstrated success leading safety programs for large-scale projects and large craft workforces (500+ employees)
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Safety or a related field highly preferred
- CSP or similar safety certifications required
- Proven servant leadership style with a passion for developing teams
- Strong field presence and ability to identify and mitigate hazards in real time
- Willingness to travel 25–40% throughout the Southeast
