About the Position
As the Controller, you will take on a hands-on leadership role, overseeing all financial functions within the company. Reporting directly to ownership, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger (GL), accounts payable/accounts receivable (AP/AR), payroll, and job costing. You will collaborate closely with project management teams to ensure accurate cost tracking and forecasting, and will play a key role in the budgeting and financial reporting processes.
This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented professional with significant experience in construction accounting. You’ll be instrumental in providing the financial insights needed to drive the company’s continued success while also leading a team of accounting professionals. Your responsibilities will span across financial record-keeping, compliance, internal controls, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger (GL), accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), payroll, and job costing.

Maintain accurate financial records and produce monthly financial statements.

Manage Work In Progress (WIP) schedules and collaborate with project managers on cost tracking and forecasting.

Efficiently conduct monthly and year-end closing processes.

Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.

Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and internal controls.

Interface with external parties such as CPAs, banks, bonding agents, and insurance representatives.

Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, ensuring continuous growth and development.

Recommend and implement process improvements and system upgrades to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
Requirements

A minimum of 8+ years of progressive accounting experience in the construction industry.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA certification is a plus).

Strong experience and knowledge in job cost accounting, WIP, and percentage of completion methods.

Proficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint-Vista, HCSS, etc.).

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Strong leadership and team management experience, with the ability to develop and mentor accounting staff.
