The company provides construction management to both the public and private sector specializing in public transit projects. They specialize in the oversight of General Contractors and Subcontractors and have been delivering complex projects with an emphasis on quality and safety while at the same time meeting budget and schedule goals.

About the Position:

As an Environmental Specialist, you will assist in monitoring and reporting on environmental compliance and sustainability efforts for the company’s construction projects. This includes reviewing and ensuring compliance with environmental policies, sustainability-related technical specifications, and various environmental programs. You will provide support to environmental engineering and waste handling efforts. You will also assist in assessing environmental issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support monitoring and reporting on the implementation of sustainability-related technical specifications and policies.
  • Assess the need for environmental engineering and waste handling support.
  • Monitor the performance of environmental engineering and waste handling consultants in accordance with the Quality Management and Operations (QMO) Plan and Procedures.
  • Coordinate to ensure that all work is performed in accordance with construction or environmental contracts/work orders/task orders.
  • Notify and coordinate any recommended changes in environmental compliance or sustainability-related scope of work.
  • Support the development and implementation of environmental and sustainability-related policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Five years of additional relevant experience may be substituted in place of formal education.
  • Experience:
    • Approximately five years of experience in environmental compliance, including groundwater and soil investigations, construction SWPPP BMPs, NPDES permitting, and dewatering.
    • Experience with asbestos and lead-based paint abatement on commercial structures.
    • Strong knowledge of regulatory agency requirements and waste management.
    • Experience with the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and other regulatory agencies.
  • Skills:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and coordinating with internal and external teams.
    • Knowledge of environmental policies and regulations, including stormwater management, waste handling, and sustainability.
