About the Position:

The Senior Construction Inspector will play a critical role in overseeing the construction activities for a major transportation project. This role requires significant experience in construction inspection and leadership, as you will be responsible for supervising and managing a team of construction inspectors. You will ensure that all construction activities are completed in accordance with contract specifications and approved plans, focusing on safety, quality, and compliance. In addition, you will be involved in field inspections, preparing reports, and working closely with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform construction inspections and supervise a team of construction inspectors to ensure adherence to approved contract documents.
  • Review and interpret plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, constructability reviews, MSDS, and contract closeout records.
  • Participate in and/or conduct preconstruction, coordination, progress, and field meetings.
  • Conduct Substantial Completion Inspections and verify if work is substantially complete, including providing punch list items for correction.
  • Monitor construction sites for safety violations and enforce safety regulations.
  • Ensure that the contractor maintains and posts all necessary contract permits in a prominent location, as required by permit conditions.
  • Verify field quantity estimates for progress payments to contractors.
  • Witness field testing of materials in accordance with approved specifications and coordinate testing laboratory activities.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Approximately 9 years of construction inspection experience in utilities, foundation, civil structural, electrical, track work, and railroad systems as applicable to the assigned work.
  • Licensing/Certifications:
    • Valid California Class C driver’s license.
    • Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30-hour training certification.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient communication skills in English (both verbal and written).
    • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other programs).
    • Knowledge of the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program and the General Permit.
  • Additional Skills:
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
