About the Position:
As a Safety Inspector, you will play a crucial role in fostering a strong safety culture on the construction site. You will be responsible for conducting field inspections, reviewing contractor safety plans, and identifying and mitigating potential hazards. This position requires a full-time presence either in the field or in the field office. You will also play an active role in responding to incidents, investigating major safety events, and ensuring compliance with regulatory safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to and support the Safety Culture on construction sites.
- Review contractor safety plans, work plans, means, and methods to identify and resolve potential hazards, and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Conduct field inspections to identify hazardous, at-risk, or non-compliant work activities, and report findings to Construction Safety.
- Maintain a full-time presence in the field or field office, providing reports as agreed upon.
- Review uncontrolled hazards or security vulnerabilities with contractor supervision, establishing and implementing compliant controls for identified hazards.
- Provide daily safety reports, including photographs prior to work commencement.
- Respond to construction incident scenes when requested.
- Conduct regular regulatory compliance monitoring, reporting non-conformance to the contractor and ensuring corrective action.
Requirements:
- Education: Associate’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related construction field.
- Experience: Approximately five years of experience in heavy civil construction safety, with progressively greater responsibilities.
- Certifications:
- Construction Safety & Health Technician (CSHT) designation.
- Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30-hour training certification.
- Skills:
- Strong effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven ability to identify and mitigate construction hazards.
- Familiarity with regulatory safety requirements and compliance standards.
- Experience conducting safety investigations and preparing safety reports.
